Exploring Space

We have been looking at the subject space based on our children’s interests. We set up a tuff tray with rockets, space objects, shiny loose parts and lots of glitter so children can show their imagination through small world play.

We provided factual books and lots of puppets on sticks for them to refer to when looking through.   We created moon sand for a sensory experience which children explored the texture and used our alien for them to find.  The children created lots of crafts this week including aliens created by their hands and googly eyes.   We think they turned out amazing!

We created all the different planets in the solar system and placed them on the wall for children to talk about.  We then extended this by bringing out the telescopes and talking about how we can see things far away and it makes them look closer.   We then used the spin art to create more planets and flicked lots of white paint to create our stars.  The children called this a galaxy and we created another display in our art area.
