Darland, Medway is a small town in the northeastern part of Connecticut. It was initially settled as an agricultural community and now has many manufacturing companies such as The Darco Corporation, which manufactures knives and other metal cutting tools.
The town also has two grocery stores: Hillside Farm Market and Towne Centre Supermarket. Six churches are located throughout the city: Baptist Church, Christian Science Society, First Congregational Church, United Methodist Church, St John’s Episcopal Church, and Trinity Lutheran Church. The only school in Darland is Darland elementary school which educates students from kindergarten to fourth grade. They offer both Montessori & traditional programs for this age group of children. Darland is located in a valley with Millington to the north and East Hampton to the south. Lake Pocotopaug borders it on its eastern side, which is part of the Connecticut River. The town has more than 1,000 acres of forest reserves, and at any given time, you can find hunters roaming the area in search of white-tailed deer.
Larry Fine developed the southern part of town, founded The Darco Corporation, better known as “the knife people.” It is also home to many working farms (apple, dairy, & cattle).
Darland is also home to many celebrities with an estate on Lake Pocotopaug. Tom Clancy, the novelist, best known for his military science fiction novels about Jack Ryan, is one of these people. His house has a lakefront view that most would envy, plus it was built in 1877! That means he gets to see the beautiful sunsets over Lake Pocotopaug every night.

It was founded in 1911 and started with just six volunteers, and now it has 25 active members who respond to approximately 300 calls per year. The town has its website, and they are very active on Facebook. The volunteer fire department posts weekly updates to let people know what is going on in Darland.
